The 2007 WTCC took all the thrills and spills of the most-exciting touring car championship all over the globe this season, heating up every city in its path. Despite the many thrills and spills of the championships, the most thrilling memory was the premiere of the SEAT Leon TDI, the only car to compete in the Championships with a non-petrol engine. The season kicked off in Curitiba, Brazil with two encouraging fourth place finishes, by Gabriele Tarquini and Yvan Muller. With the SEAT Leon TDI establishing itself as at the most competitive rear-wheel drive car it is no wonder that with the driving talents of Tarquini, SEAT recorded the first SEAT victory of the season on the Dutch course of Zandvoort. The Spanish track of Valencia saw Yvan Muller record his first podium finish of the year, taking fourth place while team-mates Jordi Gené and Michel Jourdain Jr. recorded their first points of the season. The spirited charge continued in Pau, France, with Tiago Monteiro taking the podium and Yvan Muller capturing an impressive second place. The SEAT Leon TDI confirmed its position as the fastest rear-wheel drive car in the competition on the Czech track of Brno with three SEAT drivers adding points to the ever-growing SEAT tally. The return to the Iberian Peninsular on the Portuguese circuit of Porto saw Muller capturing two fifth-place finishes despite the 50 kg ballast imposed, with Gabriele Tarquini chalking up points by finishing in forth and seventh position. Anderstorp was the setting for the historic debut of the SEAT Leon TDI WTCC, the first and only vehicle with a diesel engine to appear in the competition. Its appearance in the competition was an unmitigating success. The ability of the car was proven in Oschersleben where Yvan Muller drove the TDI to an unprecedented victory in the first race. The success continued with Jordi Gené consolidating the weekend with a third-place finish in the second race at the wheel of a SEAT Leon TDI, an incredible feat for a non-petrol-powered car. Muller emerged as a real candidate for victory on the English track of Brands Hatch, climbing up to third place in the Drivers Championship after finishing in forth and fifth place over the weekend. As the season began to heat up so did the SEAT team with the TDI dominating the weekend on the Italian soil of Monza. Yvan Muller won the first race and Jordi Gené the second after achieving a second-place finish in the first meet, giving SEAT a chance to top both the Driver and Manufacturer Championships. However, at the final race of the season in Macau the gods weren't smiling upon SEAT as the car unexpectedly stopped in the penultimate lap with Muller in the lead. It was a disappointing finish to an otherwise fantastic season, with the highly-successful introduction of the revolutionary SEAT Leon TDI, and some fantastic individual performances. 2008 looks to be another season full of excitement and auto emoción.
